Why did you decide on construction as your career?
I chose construction as my career because my passion for building things started at a young age. My father was a stone Mason and as a young boy he used to take me with him on weekends and I loved the feeling of accomplishment after building something with my hands.
What did you do in your career prior to this and how did it lead you to VBC?
I started my career straight out of high school with an apprenticeship as a tile setter. After 4 years I became a tile setter building up a good reputation from contract jobs and decided to start my own business. I did this for about 17 years. During that time, a friend asked me to do some marble work for Rob Schmalbach which, over time, turned into more work. After some other projects, Rob offered me a full time position and with the positive connection I had with him, I accepted.
How did your relationship with VBC happen?
Rob and I worked together for about 5 years, where we did several projects for Vaughan. After that, Rob joined Vaughan and with the growth of the company, offered me the position I have had now for 3 years.
What is it about what VBC does that excites you?
The passion and drive that I see from Vaughan and Rob in growing our company and our industry
What do you see the future bringing for the business and industry?
I see our industry growing to where it will become a normal way of building multifamily and affordable housing. With the on site turn around quicker, limited exposure to the elements and year-round production along with the quality we provide, we will see great success.
What do you do with your spare time?
I love spending time with my family, but most of all my 2 grandsons.
Marvel the Avengers
